Outlook.com, Hotmail and Microsoft 365 business mailboxes all connect to OrbitVibe over SMTP/IMAP. The preparation differs between personal and business accounts — pick your section below.
Personal accounts (outlook.com / hotmail.com / live.com)
Turn on Two-step verification: account.live.com/proofs/manage.
On the same page, create an app password and copy it.
Connect in OrbitVibe with that app password (steps below).
Microsoft 365 (business / custom domain)
Your admin must allow classic SMTP sign-in for the mailbox — Microsoft disables it by default:
Microsoft 365 admin center → Users → Active users → select the user.
Mail tab → Manage email apps.
Tick Authenticated SMTP → Save. (IMAP should already be ticked; enable it if not.)
Allow up to an hour for the change to propagate.
Without this, OrbitVibe's connection check fails with an authentication error even when the password is correct — it's the single most common Outlook connection issue.
Connect in OrbitVibe
Settings → Email Accounts → Connect account → Connect SMTP / IMAP.
Enter the address, pick Outlook / Microsoft 365 as the provider:
SMTP — smtp.office365.com · 587 · STARTTLS
IMAP — outlook.office365.com · 993 · SSL/TLS
Password: the app password (personal) or the mailbox password (Microsoft 365 with Authenticated SMTP enabled).
Verify & connect — OrbitVibe signs in to both servers and confirms a test email round-trips through your own inbox.
Troubleshooting
"535 5.7.139 Authentication unsuccessful" on Microsoft 365 → Authenticated SMTP is still off for the mailbox (see above), or your tenant blocks basic authentication via a security default/conditional access policy — your admin can scope an exception for this mailbox.
Personal account rejected → you used the normal password; create an app password.
